Fall 2019 Box Subscriptions
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Are you interested in the freshest produce grown right here in Jamul? Is knowing your farmer important to you? What about the assurance that your food was grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or any other chemicals and that it is the healthiest food that you could eat or feed to your family? Then a Grateful Farm Box Subscription may be right for you!
To help you decide, here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
What's in a Box?
Each Grateful Farm Subscription Box contains 9 to 12 freshly harvested seasonal items from the Farm. An example of a summer share would be heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, eggplant, green beans, beets, arugula, cucumbers, flowers, and herbs. A typical winter share might contain broccoli, beets, radishes, lettuce, kale, carrots, butternut squash, peas, cauliflower, and scallions. To the right is a photo of a previous share to give you an idea of volume. More photos of previous shares and a seasonal harvest calendar that lists which veggies you might get in your Box in a particular month can be found on the

Can I Choose the Items That Will Be in my Box?
While we are not able to accommodate fully customized box requests, we do make an effort to get to know our members most and least favorite vegetables and will tailor their box when we can to suit their specific tastes. Also, by receiving a box of seasonal vegetables that are selected by the farmer, it gives members the opportunity to try new vegetables that they may not be as familiar with and discover new favorites. We grow many items that just aren’t available in the store, such as Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Thai Soldier Beans, and Candy Roaster Winter Squash, which many of our members discover that they love even more than the traditional varieties of these vegetables.
How often will I receive my Box?
Box Subscriptions are either Weekly or Every Other Week depending on your preference and availability.
How much does it cost?
Fall/Winter 2019 Box Subscriptions are $40/Box. This is a great value since, not only are the vegetables fresher and healthier than anything available at the store, the items in the Box are almost always worth more than the price, no matter if you were buying them individually at our Farm Stand, or purchasing similar items at the Farmer’s Market, or even at the grocery store.
When and how will I get my Box?
We will eventually have a central pickup site in Jamul, however Boxes are currently delivered to a location of your choosing within Jamul on Tuesdays or Fridays between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., depending on your Subscription Plan. We do our best to accommodate a delivery time that works for you.
How does payment work?
Unlike most Vegetable Box Memberships with other farms (more commonly referred to as CSA), we do not pre-charge our members a seasonal lump sum for their Boxes. Members pay for each Box when they receive it. Payment can be made in cash or with VENMO. (Also see "What if I Need to Skip a Box?")
Will I know what is in the Box before I receive it?
Yes! We send out a message, via text or e-mail, to all of our members one or two days before you are scheduled to receive your Box letting you know what will be inside and confirming your delivery.
What if I am not sure that I will like it?
For every new member, there is a two Box trial period during which you can purchase a typical Box, twice, to give you a chance to try it out before you commit to a regular Plan. If after 2 Boxes you decide that a Grateful Farm Box Subscription is not right for you, just let us know and you’re off the hook. If, however, you are loving the variety, freshness, and flavor of seasonal veggies straight from the farm, then just let us know that you want to secure your spot and it is yours!
What if I need to skip a Box?
Skipping a Box is no problem, as long as you give us at least a full 1 week notice. This is simply because the vegetables for your Box have been planned and planted months in advance to make sure that we have the quantity and variety ready to be harvested at their peak of freshness and nutrition to fulfill your Subscription on your scheduled day. If we do not have enough notice to find them another home, they will likely be wasted, therefore, any cancellations without one week advance notice will still need to be charged.
When Does the Season End?
The Box delivery season for 2019 will end on December 8, 2019. Boxes will resume as normal once the weather and vegetables decide that it is time, anticipated to be February/March 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience.
